The Lodge, a scenic hotel
theme resort 170 kms north-central of Colombo is set in a
10-hectare lush woodland that abounds on the fringe of a
tranquil, ancient irrigation lake.
The air is pure and
filled with the birdsong of exotic Sri Lankan birds.
This is the only resort that cannot be photographed from
the air as it is surrounded by trees and lush
vegetation. |
|
The Lodge architecture is
based on Ritigala, the pre-Christian-era forest
monastery near Habarana in which, The Lodge is
situated.
The name Ritigala also applies to the
549-metre-high mountain upon which hides the ancient
complex of more than 250 stone pavilions and cells, as
well as ponds, bridges, steps and an infirmary complete
with stone herbal baths and herb grinders. |
|
Initially developed by The
John Keells Hotels as a Transit stopover for clients
going through to the east-coast beaches, The Lodge
grew to be a resort destination with its own distinct
identities and unique appeal due to the natural assets
and beauty, strategic location. |
The
Lodge is a splendid base from which to explore
the ancient city sites of Anuradhapura,
Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Dambulla.
Also the Wildlife park of
Minneriya where leopard, bear, sambar, deer,
monkeys and wide range of birds are a common
site.
